Intervju

IndieLondon interviews Kellan Lutz and Alex Meraz. Alex and Kellan talk about some of their experiences of shooting the Twilight franchise, including the latest movie, Eclipse. They also discuss why the franchise is so popular and some of their craziest fan experiences.

Q. Can you believe, looking back to the first film, that this franchise has become what it’s now become?
Kellan Lutz: You tend to fall in love with your characters, which is very unique. For myself, I love Emmett and I love playing him, and its going to be sad when you close the chapter to each book because it’s been a huge part of our lives. We’re like a family and have built this semi unit on and off set. But it’s really a blessing to be part of a franchise that allows you to continue on to do the sequel and to make the third book into a movie. Eclipse was my favourite book to read out of the series. I’m really impressed with the action and the mix between the love stories. I haven’t seen the movie yet and I can’t wait to see it tonight, but it’s really exciting to finish something off like this.

Q. What is it about this series that audiences love about vampires, mysticism and the undead?
Alex Meraz: I think you said it, love. At the root of every great story is a love story. There’s definitely elements of fantasy within the werewolves, shape-shifters and vampires, but at the end of the day it’s grounded in reality and there’s the love story. I think everyone can relate to that. They know how it is to feel unrequited love, jealousy, revenge, loyalty, having to make choices… I think this film definitely covers all that.

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about the training you went through for the fight scenes in Eclipse?
Alex Meraz: We did what’s now called wolf camp. We did muscle confusion…

Q. Muscle confusion?
Alex Meraz: Yeah, it’s confusing! It’s like circuit training. But more than anything, what it helped to do was just bond us. We got really comfortable around each other and there are scenes when we’re just goofing off the whole time. We couldn’t tell when the camera started and when it was called “cut”. So, we were always having a great time. But it was a fun experience. But the workouts at wolf camp were kind of forgettable, I guess. I had been working out a bit before because my background is in martial arts and dance. So, it was a pretty organic process to go in there and taking my shirt off.

Q. You’re so involved with the franchise, do you still feel you can enjoy the films in the same way as everyone else?
Kellan Lutz: I think that’s the fun of it. We know the secrets when we shoot scenes and you know what happens behind that fake set, or if that really wasn’t where it was. The memories come back. I know when I watch something that I’m a part of, or stuff that I see my other cast mates in, you just get that little hint of something extra, which is really kinds of dear.

Q. What’s the craziest fan experience you’ve had?
Alex Meraz: I think it was last year, when we were promoting New Moon, we did this big Q&A in Los Angeles and the whole cast was behind this cage and all the fans were there. Everyone else was sort of turned away from the fans, and I was the only one doing the whole prom thing and waving. And then I saw this fan with a bouquet of flowers and a teddy bear, and she was like: “Come here!” In my mind, I was thinking: “Oh, she shouldn’t have…” So, I go up to her and she was like: “Give it to Kellan!”

Q. And Kellan?
Kellan Lutz: It’s really unique for the fans and what the go through. I remember one fan… we were doing autograph signings because we have amazing fans who want our autographs, which is quite a unique place to be in. But she asked for an autograph and asked if she could take me home. So, I was like: “Yeah, yeah, what’s your name?” But then she yanks out this big old pair of handcuffs. I was like: “Hey!” And she was sneering. I shared that story right after Twilight came out and then when I was doing the circuit for New Moon, another fan was like: “Hey, remember that story you said?” I was like: “Yeah…” And she pulled out these fuzzy ones and then she said: “I have something for you!” And then she undid her jacket and had a real nice number on. I was like: “Hey!” It was really cute. But they’re cute… there’s no other way to explain this love that they have for this franchise.

Q. You’ve been able to travel all over the world as part of the Twilight franchise. So, what’s your favourite city? And why?
Kellan Lutz: Mine would be the Dominican Republic – the people there, the dancing, the food… just the culture itself. A lot of people don’t have much there and they’re so thankful. When I went there, I found this inner happiness within myself that I’d kind of lost. You kind of lose it when you’re in the States and you have so much opportunity. But then also the nature there… I’ve never see dragonflies this big and the waterfalls so pristine. It’s a very romantic, beautiful place.

Q. Do you have a favourite memory from shooting Eclipse?
Kellan Lutz: For myself, it involves Jackson Rathbone and myself… We had some fun times with our fight scenes and our little oopsy daisy moments when I hit him and knocked him out a little bit! But he was a true trooper. He got up and started gurgling his words and mumbling… but then also off set, he’d just finished The Last Airbender, so he’s become a mischievous little Jackson lately. He thinks he can just take the world on, so we’d get into trouble off-set and there were some really great times doing that.

Q. If you could switch roles who would you choose and why?
Kellan Lutz: I think James from the first book. I think that would be a really fun role to tap into. I’d grow my hair out.

Q. If you could have a special power, what would it be?
Kellan Lutz: What I enjoy about my character is not only his strength but the fearlessness that comes with it. When you view life and the world on such a fearless level, you kind of just live a happy life. So, that’s what I enjoy about Emmett. So, for a power

Way to go fans!

ROBERT PATTINSON’s fans came to his rescue on the set of WATER FOR ELEPHANTS – they forced the paparazzi to stop snapping the star as he shot dangerous scenes with REESE WITHERSPOON.

Snappers frequently descended on the California set to try and catch Pattinson and Witherspoon at work, and at one stage they were distracting the pair during a scene – but the Twilight star’s waiting fans saved the day.

He tells Telepoche magazine, “(The funniest fan experience) happened while I was filming Water for Elephants in which my partner is Reese Witherspoon. We had a scene with elephants but there were so many paparazzi around that it was scaring the animals and it was impossible to film.

“Out of the blue, fans, that were waiting for autographs, had enough and circled around the paparazzi. Teens made big guys run away. It was unreal! I was pleased.”

BRAKING DAWN *SPOILER*

Your current haircut is shorter than Edward's. How are you going to go about getting your long hair back for Breaking Dawn?

Pattinson: I'm thinking maybe Edward got a haircut - it might be easier. I didn't even think about that when I got it cut, that is a bit silly. Vampires can cut their hair though, so I like the idea of Edward having a shaved head in the last one. That [would be] pretty cool.

Since Breaking Dawn will be two movies, do you if one movie will be from your perspective and one will be from Rob's?

Lautner:
I do know it will be two, which I am extremely excited about. It is going to be great. Bill Condon is doing both. I it going to be awesome and I can't wait to work with him.

Is there a scene that you particularly hope makes the movie?

Stewart:
There are a million and we haven't even shot it yet. I can't wait to see [?] and I can't wait to get married and have a kid. It's all of that. It's going to be crazy.

What are you most looking forward to doing when you start shooting Breaking Dawn?

Facinelli:
I'm looking forward to working with Bill Condon. He's phenomenal. I'm looking forward to hearing what his thoughts are on the series and the movie. It's cool because all these different directors have these different interpretations. You don't get complacent and sit back and go, "Ok. I know these characters." They're always asking you different questions and getting you to think deeper.

Intervju med Gruppen Muse!

Muse have appeared on all three soundtracks to the Twilight films but from the band has likened it to ”selling your soul”.

The bassist told Newsbeat: ”I’m not sure how cool it is to be on those kind of things but sometimes you’ve just got to get your music out there in different ways.”

 Christopher Wolstenholme

With the films breaking box office records Chris admits it has meant a big boost for the band Stateside: ”It’s very difficult in America because you don’t have anything like Radio 1, nothing is national.

”You have to take every opportunity you get over there and sometimes you have to sell your soul.”

Twilight writer Stephenie Meyer is a big fan of the band and she has admitted that Muse inspired her writing.

‘Don’t care’

Chris watched the first film which he ”quite enjoyed” but admits it’s not his ”cup of tea” and hasn’t watched any of the others.

The touring schedules are so crazy that just the thought of another album is just not even there at the moment

Chris Wolstenholme from Muse

He admits there was a bit of confusion over how their track Neutron Star Collision would appear in Eclipse.

He said: ”When we were in the studio writing it, one minute they said they wanted to use it in the end credits, then they said they wanted to use it in another scene.

”Then it was another scene and in the end we were like, ‘Do what you want with it, we don’t care any more’.”

‘Starting again’

Chris tells Newsbeat they are happy that things are finally paying off for them in the States: ”It’s going great over there.

”Early this year we started playing in arenas so it was great to finally take over the full production that we toured with in Europe.

Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

Chris says there was confusion over how one of their tracks would be used

”For a long time America fell by the wayside and nothing was really happening at all and we were having problems with our record company over there.”

The band didn’t start touring in the States until their album Absolution came out.

Chris says the band enjoyed playing smaller venues again: ”It was great fun because it was like starting all over again and it was an exciting feeling.”

The band are heading back to the States at the end of the year and if you’re hoping for another album soon don’t hold your breath.

”The touring schedules are so crazy that just the thought of another album is just not even there at the moment,” he said.

”I’m sure Matt has plenty of ideas but physically trying to get together and work on stuff is just not possible on tour.

”The few days off we do have we like to go home or go somewhere and chill out. We prefer to keep the two things separate and not try and think too much about recording when we’re touring.”

Chris says they have no plans for future movie soundtracks: ”Matt’s been offered a few movie scores but the touring is so heavy and that would mean taking a few months off, not being able to tour.

”I can’t see there will be too much of that going on until we slow down on our touring.”

And the band aren’t going to slow down any time soon: ”I think while you’re young and fit enough to tour, you need to take advantage and do it for as long as you can.

”There’s plenty of time later in life to do that kind of stuff.”

“There’s quite a bit of stuff that ended up not making the cut but I think film is a living organism. It kind of grows and tells you it’s own pace,” he explained.

“I think we ended up with what was the best of everything. Certain things that were really good just slowed the pace down and we pulled them out.”

“There’s a great scene with Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Angela (Christian Serratos) in her bedroom just talking girl stuff,” he continued. “It was lovely but it just didn’t fit, it just didn’t really work. We took it out and the film flowed better. I know that will be on the DVD.”

He added there is also a “lovely scene” between Bella and her father Charlie (Billy Burke) after the graduation when he expresses his pride at her achievements.

“Again, it’s a really heartwarming scene but I felt the clap [at the ceremony] did the same thing,” he said. “There’s a bunch of stuff like that, there will be quite a few DVD extras I hope.”

Hon hade inte sagt nej!

Jodelle Ferland is creating buzz as Bree Tanner in Eclipse, you know, the #1 movie in the country that we've all seen at least twice now. We caught up with the 15-year-old, who confessed she's on Team Edward "most of the time," on the phone last month and discovered that not only did she read all the Twilight books back-to-back, but she signed on for the role of Bree without even reading the script! We also asked her about her plans for the Eclipse premiere black carpet.

"Oh yeah, I have a dress ready," she told us before the premiere. "And I'm very excited for it. I always like to have a dress in my closet that I can just pull out in case of an emergency. I bought a dress a while ago and I'm pretty sure I don't have anything else I'll need a fancy dress for before the premiere so that could be what I'm wearing. It's a pretty light color."

Not sure if the dress in the photo above is the light-colored dress she was talking about, it's light underneath the black lace, or if she switched dresses at the last minute. Keep reading for more of our Q&A with Jodelle and let us know what you thought of her Eclipse performance in the comments. Too bad she got killed in the movie, but maybe Summit will make a movie of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (someone start an online petition).

Is it true you didn't read the Eclipse script before you signed on to play Bree?
Normally when I do movies I usually read the script before I do it, but before 'Eclipse' I had a good idea of what the script would be like because I read the boolks and there was just no way I was going to say no. As soon as I found out I got the part and started to prep for the movie, I was allowed to read it.

What was your audition like?
It was the same as any other audition process but the audition normally I get something from the script to read, but for 'Eclipse' it was a scene from the book because they didn't want any of the script to get out at all so I had to read the Bree scene from the book in my audition.
What was it like being the new girl on set?
I was a bit worried about that, but there wasn't any problem. They all made me feel welcomed and I had a good time. I actually worked with Kristen Stewart [on The Messengers] before the whole 'Twilight' thing started so that was good that I knew somebody already.

When did you find out about the book?
I actually knew about the book [The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner] before I started filming. Right before I started filming 'Eclipse' I was allowed to read it so that I could understand Bree better because there's not a lot about her in the 'Eclipse' book so I was very lucky that I got to read that before anyone even knew it existed.

Did you keep it?
I wasn't allowed to keep it. I had to go to the set and read it and they were supposed to destroy it. We were on location so we didn't have shredder or anything like that so we put it in a bucket and burnt it. It was very fun. We took a video and took a picture and sent it to Stephenie and she put the picture on her site.

En snutt ur intervjun kommer nedan:

The dress code at Campbell Hall, the private Episcopal school in North Hollywood, California, once attended by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and now by Dakota Fanning and her little sister, Elle, is strict: khaki skirt, shorts, or trousers, white collared shirt, navy sweater, closed-toed shoes. “You could actually wear this,” says the elder Fanning — wide-set, frank blue eyes; fair hair; milk-white skin; and the wispy limbs of a John Currin painting — flouncing her skirt, a cream-colored silk pouf, and in the process gaily jangles a wristful of bangles. We are sitting opposite each other in a quiet booth at the Sunset Tower Hotel, in Los Angeles. Her skirt might be passable, I think, but that little distressed white cotton tank with the bra peeking out could be grounds for detention. Ditto the 5-inch, brown Marni wedge sandals that were a present for her 16th birthday, in February, and that add significantly to her petite, not-quite-5-foot-4 frame

*SPOILER ALERT*

Varning för spoilers från Breaking Dawn!

Melissa Rosenberg som är The Twilight Saga’s fantastiska manusförfattare var på en Twilight Convention i Paris förra helgen och där berättade hon hur de ska göra om boken till filmerna.

We now know that the last album, “Breaking Dawn” will be divided into two films. Do you already know how you do it?
For me, there is a natural separation in the book. I do not know yet exactly when we will stop in the first film, but in the first part of the book “Breaking Dawn” Bella is human, just married and pregnant while in the second part is a vampire and a mother. So somewhere in this transition, there is a natural separation. But I do not know yet exactly where it will be. It works.

Will you keep the book of Jacob?
No, we will not keep. Eclipse is a good way to introduce the book of Jacob, because in this film, we begin to move away from the simple perspective of Bella. We will see that the newborns, the Volturi … we’re really starting to move away from its point of view alone. So in Revelation, having the vision of Jacob on what will happen almost naturally. We will also maybe you can share other points of view.

The last album is really darker, more violent and more adult than the other three books. Will you keep these aspects in the adaptation?
Yes, absolutely! I think we can make a film more adult, more violent and sexy, while remaining accessible to the youngest. In fact, I do not see gallons of blood everywhere, I do not think this is necessary. I find instead that show everything away the suspense, horror … I would prefer the way all this through Bella. Nevertheless everything is there, we are absolutely not shy from it all. We see for example the love scene between Edward and Bella, and the feathers will be at the rendezvous! (Laughter) As the scene of childbirth, which will be filmed as directed by the director. But we all agree that this scene appears in the film, and it is as close as possible to the book. He should expect a scene of horror!

En ny intervju med Dakota Fanning

  dakota fanning

The dress code at Campbell Hall, the private Episcopal school in North Hollywood, California, once attended by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and now by Dakota Fanning and her little sister, Elle, is strict: khaki skirt, shorts, or trousers, white collared shirt, navy sweater, closed-toed shoes. ”You could actually wear this,” says the elder Fanning — wide-set, frank blue eyes; fair hair; milk-white skin; and the wispy limbs of a John Currin painting — flouncing her skirt, a cream-colored silk pouf, and in the process gaily jangles a wristful of bangles. We are sitting opposite each other in a quiet booth at the Sunset Tower Hotel, in Los Angeles. Her skirt might be passable, I think, but that little distressed white cotton tank with the bra peeking out could be grounds for detention. Ditto the 5-inch, brown Marni wedge sandals that were a present for her 16th birthday, in February, and that add significantly to her petite, not-quite-5-foot-4 frame.

And her costumes for last spring’s The Runaways would have probably gotten her expelled. The movie tells the story of the rise and fall of Joan Jett’s first band, an all-girl hard-rock ensemble (dubbed ”glam-punk” by some) that emerged in the mid-’70s. As the 15-year-old lead singer and Jett sidekick Cherie Currie, Fanning played part naïf, part sexed-up jailbait, in a frost-white wig, fishnet stockings, and an S&M corset. All in a moment, Fanning went from being an adorable if talented ”child star” to the full-fledged genuine article, and critics took notice. Reviewing The Runaways in The New York Times, A.O. Scott gushed: ”Ms. Fanning, who has shown herself a remarkably disciplined and self-aware actress almost since toddlerhood, displays heartbreaking vulnerability as well as frightening poise.” The Denver Post called her performance ”uncorked.” The message was unmistakable: She had popped

One lasting friendship to emerge from the experience was with Kristen Stewart, the 20-year-old Twilight lead who played Joan Jett to Fanning’s Currie. According to both young women, re-enacting the intimate friendship between Jett and Currie brought them close instantly, and a mutual respect has kept them that way. ”Dakota is so unfaultingly steady,” Stewart says. ”In most cases, I feel like she’s older than me. It’s only when she starts talking about boys that I remember how young she is.” (No, Fanning doesn’t have a boyfriend. So far, she says, there has been ”nothing serious.”) The two, who briefly shared the screen in Twilight: New Moon, reunited in this summer’s Eclipse, the third installment of the series, with Fanning reprising her role as a diminutive child vampire in a long cape and Mary Janes. Her character, Jane, can inflict pain with her thoughts, achieved while staring intently at her victims with eyes that appear reflector-red, thanks to a pair of color contacts. Given how much actors rely on their eyes to communicate emotion, the contacts were a handicap that might well have unsettled another, less confident performer. ”It’s something that’s always been there for me, that I have huge blue eyes — it’s been something that people have always talked about,” Fanning says. ”But I enjoyed the red. You’re automatically transformed into a creature when you put those red eyes in.” Fanning (who has been reading since she was 2) tore through the Twilight books after she was cast. ”They’re so addicting!” she says, though her natural taste in literature tends toward the more refined: Right now she’s reading Jeffrey Eugenides’ novel, The Virgin Suicides.

Sixteen is an age of ambivalence, a time of lingering on the threshold of adulthood with one foot safely in the realm of childhood. Some of Fanning’s recent choices seem calculated to project the message that she is no longer the wise child who debuted opposite Sean Penn’s mentally disabled character in I Am Sam when she was 6. (Penn was nominated for an Oscar for his performance; Fanning was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award — she didn’t win, but she was the youngest person ever to receive a nomination.) One such decision, playing an Alabama adolescent who gets raped in the 2007 indie movie Hounddog, created a backlash. To her astonishment, people seemed not to be able to distinguish between the real Dakota Fanning, then 13, and her character on-screen. ”When you start out young, people get really attached to who you are at 6 years old,” Fanning says. ”I hope that The Runaways was kind of a moment to be like, ‘You know, I’m not that young little girl anymore, but I’m still not all grown up, either.’” There is a deliberate, patient rhythm to her ambition; right now she’s looking for a project to do with her sister, who’s 12 and is about to appear in Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere, due out later this year. Fanning is on the brink, and she knows it: Picture an Olympic diver bouncing three times at the edge of a springboard before she takes the leap. ”As you get older, there’s so much more that you can do in films,” she says. ”I’ve never wanted to rush that; I’ve always wanted to do what’s right for my age, but as you approach 18, a whole new world opens up to you as an actor, and I really look forward to that.”

Tysk intervju

BILD am SONNTAG: Miss Stewart, Mr Pattinson, Mr Lautner… after you've done at least three movies out of the Twilight saga, do you think of the time when it will end?
ROBERT: I mean, it's almost impossible to understand this kind of experience right now. It all happened in such a short period of time, it's like a supernova.
KRISTEN: I really admire my role of Bella. She feels like a sister to me. I could do this, like, forever.

BamS: Which scene out of Eclipse do you remember the best?

KRISTEN: When Taylor actually had to say “I'm hotter than you” to Rob, it was so funny. I almost couldn't stop laughing. Even after the like 50th time it was funny.
TAYLOR: I had to carry Kristen up the mountain and while doing so I had to say four pages of lines. Actually, for this scene a special framework had been built - that didn't work. So I said, 'What the hell! She weighs about 50 pounds [ca 23 kilo]!' Twelve hours later, after the scene had been filmed from every possible angle, I couldn't feel my arms.

BamS: Who's your role model?

TAYLOR: My role model is Tom Cruise. He's got a lot of different facettes and he's super nice. My female favorite is Jessica Alba. She's a dreamgirl and dream co-star in one person.
KRISTEN: I definitely look up to the rocksinger Joan Jett. I recently portrait her in a biopic called “The Runaways” and so I had the opportunaty to get to know her. Joan showed the all-male rock business that girls can rock out too. And she stayed the same, and you need to have a lot of courage to do so.

BamS: How do you feel when you meet a star?

ROBERT: I sat next to David and Victoria Beckham once, in a L.A. restaurant. That kinda shocked me, it was surreal.

BamS: What was the craziest thing you've read about yourselves?

TAYLOR: That I was dead. Really! I died a couple of times. Once they said australian dancers had killed me.
Rob: I was voted for the best dressed man by a magazine. And I looked down on me; wearing training clothes, really old, worn shoes and tuxedo socks - best dressed who?

BamS: You find yourself put in situations you've never imagined, right?

ROBERT: Paparazzi follow me everywhere I go, like, to the weirdest places. I have to get used to that. I was photographed while buying a pair of boxer shorts recently in London and a friend of mine was whit me and he bought a pair too to make me feel more comfortable.
TAYLOR: The most bizzare thing that happened to me was when a woman from Sydney came to me and asked for an autograph on her arm. On the next day there was an article in the newspaper that she'd tattoed my autograph on her arm.

BamS: Twilight conveys some kind of old-fashioned themes. Like ever lasting love, no sex before marriage.

ROBERT: Some people meet in a bar and have sex the same night and stay together for the rest of their lives. Some are together without marrying each other, get five children and then get married. I think society shouldn't put off rules about how you have to live your life. Everyone should be able to decide on their own.

BamS: Edward seems to wake up some kind of archaic thing in women, the noble gentleman who is carrying his girl on hands. Where did the emanzipation go?

ROBERT: I kind of wondered about that too (laughs.)

BamS: What can young people learn from Edward?

ROBERT: He's sympathetic, he forgives his girlfriend even when she kisses another guy. Good guy.

BamS: And apparently a majority listens to Edward.
ROBERT: Will Smith's son Jaden, who's in "Karate Kid", recently said that Twilight is his favorit book. I'm not hearing right. Shouldn't he be interested in karate?

BamS: How much of you one can find in your characters?

TAYLOR: Private, we behave like every other normal human being.

BamS: What do you do to stay the same person you used to be before this phenomenon?

KRISTEN: You just shouldn't think about it that much. I mean, it's great but on the other hand very surreal. It's a heavy trip - but it's a lot of fun!

Ny intervju med Jack

Jack_HArticle

Details har en intervjuat Jack Huston som spelar Royce King i The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Han pratar mest om The Twilight Saga och hans kommande projekt.

Details: In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, you play the former fiancé of Edward’s sister, Rosalie. How did you land the part?

Jack Huston:
I auditioned for another part—a newborn vampire—and kind of shocked the producers. I acted like a junkie. I hadn’t slept the night before and had drunk lots of coffee. Everyone was like, “Um, a little too edgy.” But they liked me enough to offer me this part instead.

Details: What’s it like to be part of the Twilight phenomenon?

Jack Huston: I have never seen anything like it, actually. I turned up for shooting and, literally, everyone was there—children, teenagers, 20-year-olds, mothers, older ladies. There was an English teacher, who had saved up her time off and flown from England to Vancouver to put herself up in the same hotel as the cast. She sat in the lobby all day, just to see them walk out. That’s a little extreme, but I like her dedication.
